Media Training and Research Mobilization Workshop

Presented by the Canadian Association of Labour Media, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Nova Scotia and the Dalhousie Faculty Association.

This workshop is targeted to academics and community-based researchers who are interested in increasing the uptake of their research. It will include tips and trips on writing and pitching op-eds, doing media interviews, writing media advisories and press releases, and translating research for media purposes.

When: May 1st, 2025, 9am-3pm
Where: Dalhousie University, Halifax and Online Option

This event is free to participate in but you must register. We request that organizations who have participating members consider making a donation to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Nova Scotia Research Fund.

Workshop Presenters

Nora Loreto
Nora Loreto

Nora Loreto is a writer, musician and activist based in Québec City with expertise in media literacy, social media, extreme snark and government relations. Nora is the author of From Demonized to Organized, Building the New Union Movement (2013), and contributed a chapter on debt and youth activism in Canada After Harper (2015). She writes regularly for rabble.ca and progressive magazines. She has a BA in public administration and minors in journalism, history and politics from Ryerson University and a Masters of Education from the University of Saskatchewan. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Ryerson Free Press and was involved in the student movement for almost a decade. Nora is the Québec Director of the Canadian Freelance Union, is on the board of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and is involved in her local coordinating committee for Québec solidaire.

Christine Saulnier
Christine Saulnier

Christine Saulnier is Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Nova Scotia. She has a doctorate in Political Science from York University. She leads the living wage calculations for communities across Atlantic Canada and serves as a co-author of the annual child and family poverty report cards for Nova Scotia. She has written extensively, and given commentary on a range of other public policy issues including fiscal policy, labour markets, and child care policy. She serves on the Steering Committee of Child Care Now Nova Scotia, and Campaign 2000 (national coalition to end child and family poverty). She served on the Board of the NS Health Coalition and Adsum for 10 years.
