Breaking Down Barriers: An introduction to digital accessibility

Interested in learning the basics about how to start lowering barriers for people with disabilities in your digital materials, such as newsletters, websites and social media posts?
Come to this beginner to intermediate level presentation, and learn some of the basics about digital accessibility. You will learn more about: the importance and benefits of digital accessibility, the basics of Canadian accessibility legislation, how some people access digital materials, including a live assistive technology demonstration, and practical tips on how to start lowering barriers and make digital materials more accessible for people with different disabilities.

No technical expertise is required, just an interest in the subject.

 

Lisa Snider is the Senior Digital Accessibility Consultant and Trainer in her company, Access Changes Everything (www.accesschangeseverything.com). Since 1999, Lisa’s passion in life has been to make the digital world more accessible for people with disabilities in different North American settings and contexts.

Lisa shares this knowledge through presentations, in-person and webinar training, user testing, audits, procurement consulting, etc. for a wide variety of North American organizations, governments and businesses, such as the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Province of Nova Scotia, City of Winnipeg and National Network for Equitable Library Service.

Lisa was the Chair of the Province of Manitoba’s Accessibility for  anitobans
Act, Information and Communications Standard Development Committee,
was a Stakeholder in the W3C Accessibility Guidelines Working Group Silver Task Force (WCAG 2.1), is an invited member of the Microsoft Inclusive Workplace Customer Advisory Council, and is a member of the ATHEN Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Mac Outlook Accessibility Groups, collaborating with Microsoft to improve the
accessibility of their products.
